Case Study

ARC Army Recovery Capability, The MOD and Help for Heroes at Tedworth House, Tidworth 0211-0212

Designed and facilitated a Transformational Change Programme to provide Sick and Injured Soldiers a foundation of skills and strategies for them to compete in today’s job market focussed on developing communication and information acquisition skills.  The very skills that have been found to be crucial to finding gainful employment when they leave the Army.

AWP utilises different mediums to engage all the senses to ensure the soldiers grasp the knowledge quickly and that it is sustainable over time.  These include written theory, pictures, metaphors (stories), videos and finally practice as a game, exercise or role play for the knowledge to be embedded.  A detailed reference manual is provided for subsequent review and to improve their skills.

We conclude with a game show exercise to ensure that the learning was integrated. Exercises are linked to real life situations and putting the skills in practice is an indication of having learned the strategies.  The idea is to be able to apply the skills to practical situations which is why we include so many mediums to impart the knowledge.

A recent study by Dr Paul Sissons of Work Foundation, has found that: ” …. skills such as communication, team working and customer service are important. ….. For young people without the soft skills needed to access work in these growing sectors, finding employment has become increasingly difficult.”

The aim is to give our soldiers the very skills that employers are seeking because without them they will be in jeopardy of joining the ranks of the 450,000 young people that Dr Paul Sissons’s recent study has found are struggling to find employment.
